Description: This immaculate project Sonex Legacy is being presented with a no reserve auction. The aircraft has been registered with the FAA but has never received an airworthiness certificate. The project could be completed and fly off program hours could be completed with the involvement of an A&P on the project.

An alternative use for this project could be parting out the build to sell off the parts, or use the engine to complete another project. This whole project can be purchased for a fraction of just the engine cost. The airframe could be repurposed as a centerpiece for a FBO, restaurant, man cave, or a property entrance. Project aircraft shows in like new condition.

The project has been stored inside its whole life, and the engine has been preserved in mineral oil.

Questions & Answers
Q: Why was the kit bought in 2007 and now just being sold in 2024? posted by: Ferick2008 1/31/2024 9:55 AM CT
Q: Was the long-term storage done and why didn't the builders complete the project? posted by: Cstokes0303 1/31/2024 9:51 AM CT
Q: Are the pictures recent? What year was the kit purchased? What year did the builders stop their work? posted by: Ksmith 1/27/2024 3:19 PM CT
A: The images were taken the last week of November 2023. I will get an answer on purchase date and build end asap
Q: The ailerons do NOT work. MOVED THE STICK LEFT & RIGHT. No aileron movement. Are the parts in the wings? Couldn’t test brakes as the nose tire was flat. Trim tab does NOT work. Are the parts in the aircraft? posted by: Doeddy 1/27/2024 2:41 PM CT
A: Ailerons are disconnected there’s 1 bolt and a pin sitting in the belly. They will work when connected.
Q: The listing is posted as a Legacy model in the auction description, a B model in the PDF file. Please confirm the model, legacy or B. posted by: Ksmith 1/27/2024 6:43 AM CT
A: it is a legacy, there was an error on the spec sheet originally, we fixed it but due to our wide distribution a detail may have been missed. We apologize for that
Q: Is the owner willing to complete a FAA 8130-12? Going to be difficult to get an airworthiness certificate unless you can find a understanding DAR posted by: Tilyn62 1/26/2024 1:49 PM CT
A: Steve (owner) will sign FAS 8130-12 for next owner
Q: Are the brakes working? The ailerons are not working, are the parts in the wings? posted by: Doeddy 1/26/2024 11:21 AM CT
A: this aircraft sat dormant from when it was built until now. it has never been flown. it is assumed the brakes and ailerons work but has not been inspected or run to prove this. please repost your Parts in the wings question with more info
Q: Without pix builder logs or records it may be difficult to prove the 51% rule You will need a DAR to believe you built IT The engine cowl is not attached because the piano hinge pins are not there Also inspection plates are missing. posted by: Doeddy 1/26/2024 11:07 AM CT
A: I recommend to all I have talked with to reach out to their local DAR. there is a lot of leeway in how the 51% is verified with a FAS 8130-12 and a good relationship with a DAR it should work out just fine to get this airworthy.
Q: Does it have the required manufacturer's plate? posted by: jmarcush 1/26/2024 7:52 AM CT
A: no but one can be made or purchased
Q: When was the Sonex kit purchased? When was assembly completed? posted by: jkjackson65 1/24/2024 3:49 PM CT
A: Purchased November 30, 2007, completed in less than 12 months
Q: Cowling pins, inspection plates. posted by: Doeddy 1/24/2024 1:34 PM CT
Q: Will it come with a FAA bill of sale? posted by: Ksmith 1/23/2024 4:28 PM CT
A: YES! Our closings all go through AIC Title. They ensure a secure and transparent transaction and handle all liens and FAA paperwork
Q: How long ago was the engine unpickled? It’s not pickled now. Are the missing parts available with the airplane? posted by: Doeddy 1/23/2024 10:31 AM CT
A: engine was unpickled 6-7 months ago. Can you define what parts you are looking for and I will get a thorough answer
Q: Where is it located posted by: swampgy 12/17/2023 9:12 AM CT
A: Location: Eau Claire Wisconsin
Q: Is there an A&P that can do a pre-buy inspection for a serious bidder? posted by: Ksmith 12/15/2023 5:32 PM CT
A: An inspection is absolutely possible. Contact the office directly to assist in coordinating. 254-735-5030
Q: Does the plane come with any build logs/receipts for parts? posted by: flyastinson 12/9/2023 5:14 PM CT
A: No build logs or receipts. The builders were a group of friends, mostly engineers from Honeywell. They finished the build and never got an AP to sign off. Its ready for someone to get an ap involved and fly off its 40
